Solemn High Mass at Franciscan University for Christ the King

There will be a Solemn High Mass at Franciscan University of Steubenville Christ the King Chapel for the patronal Feast of Christ the King on Sunday, 28 October 2012, at 4:00 PM. Celebrant will be Fr. Gregory Plow, TOR. This will be the first Solemn High Mass ever offered in Christ the King Chapel, which was built in 1969, and the first Solemn High Mass at Franciscan University in 50 years.

Christine and Sylvester ("Sly") were struck by the back end of a truck last Friday at noon, at the corner of 40th and Butler Streets in Lawrenceville, when the truck trailer rode up onto the sidewalk where they stood. Baby Sly is in Children's Hospital, recovering from his injuries and surgery.

Ed Stewart, R.I.P.

Ed Stewart, lifelong supporter of the Traditional Latin Mass, died suddenly on Sunday morning, November 13, during Mass at St. Boniface Church. Mr. Stewart was one of the choir who sang for the first TLM at the Hazelwood American Legion on Sunday, Feb. 13, 1972, in the darkest days of the fight for Catholic Tradition.

Solemn High Mass in PATTON Oct. 30

From our friends in the Diocese of Altoona:

On Sunday, Oct 30, a SOLEMN High Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace (in PATTON, PA) at 11 AM in honor of the Feast of Christ the King. This highly ceremonial Mass features three sacred ministers—priest, deacon, and subdeacon—as well as master of ceremonies, thurifer, acolytes, and torchbearers. Some of you may recall that we celebrated a Solemn High Mass once before, in Feb 2010. These two liturgies are probably the first Solemn High Latin Masses celebrated in the diocese in several decades!

ALSO ... the liturgy will feature the Juniata College Concert Choir singing a 16th century Mass by Palestrina entitled Aeterna Christi Munera (“Eternal Gifts of Christ”). Gregorian Chant and other sacred music will be sung as well.

This is one liturgy you won't want to miss!

A "potluck" buffet luncheon will be held in the church hall immediately following the Mass. Those who come are requested to bring a covered dish.

High Mass and 40 hours devotion October 16 at Sacred Heart in Cleveland

 

Greetings! Thought you may perhaps be interested to know that on Sunday, October 16, I will be celebrating High Mass at 5:00pm at Sacred Heart church near Cleveland for the solemn closing of their 40 Hours devotion. The pastor, Father Dave Ireland, is a good friend of our Institute.

 

After the Mass Father Ireland will then preside at Vespers, after which I will give a spiritual meditation on the Holy Eucharist. Father Ireland will the offer Benediction to close the Forty Hours devotion.

Bishop William Waltersheid, who was recently appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, celebrated his first Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary form at a newly-erected Carmel in Harrisburg, PA. Might we hope that he will someday celebrate a Mass for our Latin Mass Community?
