I do not mean this to be an inflammatory question. I'm just curious about the answer. Do the churches in Pittsburgh that offer the Latin Mass have an indult from their Bishop to do so?
ReplyDeleteDanielle,
ReplyDeleteThe Latin Mass Community at St. Boniface Church certainly operates with the knowledge and permission of Bishop David Zubik. You can find us listed on the diocesan website, at http://www.diopitt.org/serves_catholic_community.php.
In general, any Latin Mass offered at a diocesan church may safely be assumed to be completely "legal". For example, St. Titus Church in Aliquippa has occasional Latin Masses, sponsored by that parish's Knights of Columbus council. Strictly speaking, an "indult" is no longer required for any Roman Rite priest to celebrate Mass in the Extraordinary form (as Pope Benedict prefers to call it), whether publicly or privately, as a result of the 2007 instruction Summorum Pontificum.
